Titan growls in his very low and most dangerous voice. The Alpha starts screaming out all kind of curses and names, but Titan don’t care, and shoves his hand into the chest of the Alpha, and rips out his heart. The Alphas' body falls to the ground with a thud, and Titan drops his heart on the floor next to the body. Titan comes over to me, lifts me up into his arms, and nuzzles his nose into my neck. I softly caress his face. “I am okay,” I whisper.

My mouth went dry with fear, and shock. “I, Titan of Wilder, hereby reject you. Our bond is severed. You are nothing to me now.” I doubled over as pain flashed in my lower belly, like hot iron being pulled through my insides, a final proof that our had been broken. I fell to my knees, the white silk of my dress pooling around me like spilled milk. The room spun, I felt faint. And through the haze of my agony, I saw Indira lean in, her lips brushing Titan’s ear as she smirked at my broken form.

Meekey whispered. “I didn’t do it for you,” Tasha said. “I did it because she deserves closure—one way or another.” The line went dead. Later that afternoon, Maya made her way to the café near Jefferson Park. She sat by the window, sipping coffee she didn’t want, waiting. She had seen a picture of Zoe once smiling beside Natalie on a community newsletter website. Black braids. Sharp jawline. Big hoop earrings and a stare that said don’t mess with me unless you mean it.

He cuts between defenders, spins away from the grasping hands, his powerful strides eating up the yards as he races toward the end zone. Twenty yards. Fifteen. Ten. A linebacker launches himself at Jaxon's ankles, but Jaxon jumps over him like he's defying gravity itself. Five yards. Three. Two. He dives across the goal line just as a defender crashes into him, the ball clutched protectively against his chest as they both tumble into the end zone. One minute, we are holding our breaths. And the next? The stadium explodes, and the scoreboard flashes: DALLAS TITANS - WIN.

I hated myself for how quickly relief flooded through me. Boston College finally scored off a broken play with three minutes left in the second—traffic in front, rebound nobody cleared, ugly little garbage goal that sucked the air out of the building. Tie game. The Eagles bench erupted. The Titans didn’t panic. Because Chase didn’t. He took the next draw, won it clean, and spent the following shift playing like he’d taken the tie personally. Titan tells her as she lands a left to his body. “How about how hard I’m hitting. Huh?” Iris gives him a one two punch and he actually falls on his butt. “Too much?” Iris stops to let him recover but he sweeps her legs and she falls on her back on the forrest floor. Titan stands over her and falls face first toward her. Iris doesn’t flinch as he catches himself on his arms and settles between her legs. “You got a little cocky there, tiny Alpha,” Titan rubs his nose over her cheek and down her neck.
