"Jimmy, you lost me at 'robot.' Just tell us—does it shoot lasers or something cool?" Jimmy rolled his eyes but grinned. "No lasers, unfortunately, but it’s going to blow people's minds; just wait." I smiled as I half-listened, picking at my lunch while Patty twirled a lock of her hair. We were comfortable, safe in our little bubble of nerdy conversations and inside jokes. And then, as if summoned by some unspoken rule of high school misery, Patty suddenly froze mid-sentence. Her eyes darted to something over my shoulder, and her face twisted in dread.

While of course her scent sticks out, there’s like fifty others and they’re not all pleasant. But who I absolutely wasn’t expecting, sits between all of them. He kinda stands out. *You okay son,* I hear, over mind-link. A chill shoots through my entire being at his gravelly voice. It’s haunted my dreams a lot these last few weeks. Thinking of our last words, thinking I’d never hear him again. I just took for granted Doze was indestructible, that he’d always be here. But I can’t ever allow myself to think anyone is invincible, especially not me.

He had tried everything possible to get himself healthy all to no avail. Like any other person that will find his or herself in his shoes, he tried but he failed. His disease was said to be incurable and so he had no other choice than to wait patiently for death’s call. Thinking about his mom, whom he knew was going to freak out if he told her about his situation, he couldn’t help but worry. He was going to die anytime soon and so leaving his mom all alone and she was going to experience the traumatic experience from the day his father died. He felt pity for his mom and so decided to shower her with all the love he could have during the short period that he was going to be around.

Stellan only asked, "If it hurts that much... did she cry?" The doctor shook his head. No. I had shown no reaction at all throughout the entire procedure. I had slept peacefully the whole time. Stellan broke down and wept, like a child who had been holding in too much for too long. I had read plenty of stories where people said that after death, you returned to the healthiest version of yourself. Yet I still could not see a thing.

Broken no more. Burning forever. Together. Always.

The sound echoed across the arena. The lights flashed white. The cheers turned into gasps. Nathan’s knees buckled. The last thing he saw before everything went black was the en dless sea of faces screaming, panicking, crying—and the world spinning out of focus. And then...... nothing.
