Layla POV All the pups that Willow brought with her now have homes; it never ceases to amaze me how quickly children can adapt to new surroundings. Willow and Riley have marked each other. Willow is a beautiful she-wolf with a loving nature; Riley and Willow are perfect for each other. Darius and I are on our way to my territory; Anita has gone into labor, and Diana is there, but both Zach and Anita have asked if I could be with her in case Zach passes out as Drew did.

One by one, the soldiers crumbled. “Retreat!” Xareth bellowed, his voice sharp and loud, so loud it felt like it split the earth. Those who could still run, did. My wolf turned to follow, then pain hit. A blinding, searing, soul-piercing pain as an arrow lodged deep into my wolf’s flank. Not just any arrow, one tipped with that cursed green fire. It spread instantly, like venom made of flame. It burned through muscle, nerves, spirit, everything.

The white wolf watched his mate with pride as she explained to her cousins. The wolves continued to howl until the flames had died down and the last embers were burned out. Carr took Lee's hand, sent his thanks to his pack, and then left with the bereaved families to talk further. As they walked away the owl took flight, calling to his mate in a low-pitched but loud ho-ho-hoo hoo hoo. Carr looked up and smiled at the ghostly apparition as he winged his way across the sky. Kairav nodded. "I'm choosing to put my faith in you," he said. "I know you will—" Willow cut him off. "Do you hear that?" she said looking towards the trees. The members that were coming back were now inside the building. "Hear what?" Willow stepped out and looked at the trees that were slightly ruffling. Within a second she saw a vampire running towards her, fast enough to not easily be seen, and fast enough to not give her the time to react. And in the next second, Wes was in front of her holding the vampire by his throat before snapping his neck. The vampire fell to the ground with a thud.

There was a tale passed through generations, reaching the 21st Century, about a group of werewolves’ special mutation that brings out dormant abilities from a family’s genetic line. They were said to be marked and blessed by the moon goddess for they were the first of her followers. They were given the title of Legacy Wolves, keeping up their tradition and passing on their special traits through their children.
