Willow is chewing on the edges of her fingernails, and they are starting to bleed. I gesture for them to follow me into my office at the end of the hall. I shut the door and flip the lock. Osiris sits down across from me and rests his head in his hands. “I am assuming this is about Elizabeth’s wolf,” I break the silence in the room. “Too many people saw her shift,” Osiris says. “Rumors are going to spread.” “Did either one of you know that she had a white wolf?” I ask. Willow sighs loudly. Osiris and I both look in her direction. “She told me when she was younger that her wolf was white, but I could never see into her future. So, I could never be sure.”

The gates gave way under us. And then we were in. Inside the settlement. Still burning. Still bleeding. And still—fighting. The sight stunned me. Even in the chaos, even with our own people turning on us, they’d held the line. How? How the hell were they still standing? Then I saw her. A sleek wolf with a single grey streak cutting through her white coat. Willow. She wasn’t just fighting. She was wielding compulsion. Shielding those around her. Disabling attackers. Directing the battlefield like a general with her mind.

My wolf then whimpered and I didn’t know if it was for Jess or Willow, but I knew he was hurting. Ever since Jess hasn’t been with us, my wolf has put out his frustrations into training even harder. Not one wolf has even come close to taking me down since then, except Willow. Yesterday in the training ring with her it was as if my wolf was being playful with her wolf. She was good, that was for sure, but my wolf found himself distracted by hers. I had never seen a black she wolf before, especially one with red tips.

She quickly stepped onto the porch and saw that it was dark and quiet. "Officer?" Willow called hoarsely. From the direction of the trees near the lake, Willow heard a rustling. She froze in the doorway, sharpening her hearing and staring intently in the direction of the sound. Then a white wolf appeared, striding toward the lodge. Willow recognized the animal, which she thought was a dog. But in the back of her mind, she began to think that it was not a dog, but a wolf. Just like Zoey had said.

’ The voice inside my head is loud and clear, nothing like the echo it was. ‘Are you my wolf or am I going crazy?’ it’s a serious question even though I laugh as I ask it. ‘Yes Rose, I am your wolf. Now I understand that you feel the need to protect Isabelle right now, I see it." 'David is not a good father.' She cut me off. I nodded.

The manor was white with big floor to ceiling glass windows, it looked celestial under the moonlight. I have been in WillowRidge for my whole life, but I never knew about this manor, no one could see this from the road, it is so well hidden. What a wonder. The assistant opened my door and took me to the side of the manor through a garden of colourful flowerbeds that looked so beautiful even at night.
