I removed the phone from my ear, stared at the screen, and placed it back. “We can't find Austin. We came together, but he's gone. He's not in the restaurant. I don't know where he is. We've been searching over thirty minutes…” she was breaking down.

That should be our top priority right now, above anything else," Alex said. They set off to where Anna used to live, only to find no trace of her. She wasn't there. They searched for where she used to work, but the store was closed. They kept on looking around the community. "Where could she have gone?" Matt asked. "No idea," Alex replied.

“With Michael?” “He’s not with his brother.” She takes a deep breath and closes her eyes. “Let’s try this again. Alex is not here anywhere. Did he say anything to you about leaving?” I shake my head and realize his scent has disappeared from the house, so he hasn’t been here for a while. It hadn’t really occurred to me before, but I smell him even when I can’t see him… “I don’t know. Where.” The drumming gets louder, and I want to ask her to stop but know better.

“Weird. I can’t remember.” Shrugging it off, he headed upstairs to check on Chase’s progress. * Helen stood frozen, her face twitching with frustration. I run through the woods, searching for her. Again. Jake and I have checked this area four times, but maybe we missed something. She left her phone so I can’t track her. She blocked Jake out from the mindlink so he can’t find her. Zeke’s attempts to reach Vera have been futile. I don’t pick her scent up anywhere, and that terrifies me.
