Streams of white light energy hit them and sent them and the bodies they possessed down into the abyss. I moved my hand, aimed at zombies, and sent them to the darkness of the Underworld. A zombie in the form of a naked shifter had cracked the back of a screaming Neratomay Elder, and I shot it, sending the both of them into the abyss. Paul was punching a zombie that had entered the body of a Were-bear, its mouth the size of an alligator. Though Paul knocked the bear off balance, the bear wasn't stunned. I aimed my power at the bear's cavernous mouth seconds before it would have locked onto Paul's face. I returned that abomination to the Underworld.

When his body slumps back down and goes still, I am too hesitant to move. Cara is screaming at me inside as she tells me to run. However, its like my body refuses. This is Xander. I would know him anywhere even without the bond. I can still feel him. I have felt him more here now as I looked through his eyes than when I laid across his cold body. She is newer to the presence of out mate and has no idea what she is talking about.

He looked up at me and spat out a chunk of the man, and nodded, ready to go. I walked on, opening doors to make sure they were clear as we passed, knowing Xander and Elias probably had Balista cornered in one of them. I kicked in a door to the left, and no one was there. "Clear!" A few wolves ran past, but Seven stayed on my flank. Gunfire, growling, shouts, and screams echoed off the walls in the warehouse as we made our way through. I kicked open a door to the right. Nothing. "Clear!" Then I came to another door across the hallway and heard voices. I kicked it open, and Xander and Elias were standing there nude, having just shifted, and Balista and Sasha were backed against the wall.

Zombie evolution. So this was the evolution they were talking about. Decider One waved a hand lightly, and the darkness surrounding them instantly disappeared. The black floor beneath Hayley's feet became transparent like glass. Below it lay countless laboratories. Every single room was packed with zombies. Researchers in white lab coats moved busily between them, conducting experiment after experiment. Then Hayley noticed one laboratory erupt into cheers. Inside, a researcher injected a zombie with Serum X. Moments later, the zombie awakened a completely new gift.

That night, Zach guarded Zelle right next to her room, and in his dream for that night was the memory he will never forget. It was a year after Zelle had just lost her memories. Zach and Aaron just moved into the mansion to play with her. Zach saw the quiet little girl reading a black book under the huge tree. "Zelle, what are you reading?" Zelle did not respond and continued to read the ‘fairytale’ book while ignoring him. Zach sat next to her and tilted his shoulder over to hers to take a look at what she was reading about. That surprised him instead!

asked Chu Xun, pausing. "Imbecilic mortal. The race of Zombies does not fear death. I'll never betray my kin." Chu Xun's eyes flashed. That would mean that there were more Zombies still alive, lurking in hiding. He had encountered Zombies before during his time in the alien domain. They were powerful too, but they looked like humans and they drank only blood. Yet Zombies here feed on human hearts and that disgusted him.

Xia honeyed coloured phoenix eyes suddenly landed on the zombie moistened lips, her throat bubbled slightly from the sudden thirst she was feeling before squinting her eyes when she processed in her head what the zombie had said. “They were badmouthing me” she said, it was not a question but an affirmative statement. The zombie dull eyes brightly lit up and nodded twice with joy, his little girl understood him! He is so happy. Xia's eyes were half-closed when the zombie's dull eyes lightened out of the blue.

The next morning, the guards and chef were already awake before I was. I had barely finished washing up when I saw them standing in the main hall waiting for me. Judging from the looks on their faces, they had already seen what was happening outside. I turned toward the street beyond the one-way glass just in time to see a swarm of grotesque zombies roaming the roads. Some still vaguely resembled humans, but most were drenched in blood, their faces twisted into horrifying shapes. A few were so badly mutilated that their organs spilled out as they ran.

Another zombie in a janitor's uniform had been drawn over by the noise, and it rushed out of the darkness and bit down on Julian's calf. "Ah!" A shrill scream tore through the dead silence of the hallway. The zombie's sharp teeth pierced straight through the magazines Julian had tied around his calf and ripped off a large chunk of flesh along with a piece of his pants. The pain triggered Julian's will to survive. He struggled wildly and grabbed a dry fire extinguisher from the wall. He swung it with every bit of strength he had and slammed it into the suited zombie's head. Bang! The zombie's head caved in, and black blood splattered across Julian's face.

"Good. Lets just get back to the warehouse. Get behind the walls." The four-kilometer drive felt like it took hours. Every time a stray zombie stumbled out from a side alley my foot jerked on the pedal. The heavy steel plow on the front of the truck pushed them aside like dry branches. The city was still burning around me, black columns of smoke twisting into the gray sky but all I could think about was the cold terrifying look in Justin’s eyes. He was right about one thing—the world was changing fast. If a Tier 2 Awakened was already walking around on day one, my current defenses weren't going to be enough to keep me alive.
