LOGINALEXANDER
I was rendered speechless as I stared at my father in disbelief. I couldn’t remember the last time he’d spoken to me. Even when I tried to start a conversation or ask for an audience, I was turned away, and Jezebel would force me to kneel for hours. If I didn’t constantly hear him speaking to everyone around me—everyone except me—I wouldn’t have remembered the sound of his voice.
“She refused to—” Jezebel began, but my father cut her off sharply. “I’m not interested. Get her a new dress and make sure she looks good. Tonight is the bonding night, and she can’t appear worse than the others. She might be lucky enough to get a mate.”
I stiffened. For a moment, I’d thought he might be showing me a sliver of humanity—kindness, even—but his words made it clear. This wasn’t compassion. He was thinking about what he could gain if I bonded tonight. He was already anticipating my bride price.
“You may leave,” Jezebel said, though her eyes burned with reluctance.
I didn’t waste a second in that suffocating room. As I slipped out, I could still hear their voices behind the door. It wasn’t until we headed toward the open center of the castle that I understood what they’d been discussing. I glanced down at the beautiful dress I’d been given, and a quiet thrill rose in my chest. I hadn’t worn anything new in years.
Everyone else was excited about bonding night. I wasn’t. I was excited about the dress.
I couldn’t stop smiling, checking it again and again, careful not to let my hands brush the fabric in case I stained it.
Then I heard Jezebel’s voice, sweet and smug. “Tracy, your father and I changed the pack’s policy just for you. We want everyone in the castle to witness the most beautiful girl in the pack bond with the Alpha. I want them to know the Luna is my daughter. I want them to bow their heads and worship you—not only because you’ll be Luna, but because they’re lucky a beautiful lady like you agreed to accept them.”
Her words made me swallow hard. I looked at Tracy. She was beaming—she loved praise more than anything. With a practiced softness, she said, “Oh, Mother…”
But Jezebel only smiled wider. “Don’t be humble. You’re the envy of the Moon Goddess.”
I didn’t realize I’d stopped walking until Jezebel snapped, “Walk faster, cursed child!”
I jolted out of my daze and hurried after them.
We reached the castle square, where the women, men, and children of the pack had already gathered. The moment we arrived, those who recognized my stepmother, Jezebel, stepped forward and began talking to her. Others crowded around Tracy, showering her with compliments, while I was left standing alone.
Everyone buzzed with excitement, chatting and glancing up at the dark clouds gathering overhead, as if waiting for something to happen.
I wanted to look at the sky too, to feel included, but my eyes drifted to the pool at the center of the square. Damon and Tracy stood beside it, watching two fish swim lazily in circles. They smiled at each other—so effortless, so certain. They really were in love.
I took a small step forward, hoping to blend into the crowd, but before I could take another, a kick slammed into me. I staggered, lost my balance, and hit the ground hard, landing on my butt.
When I looked up, Martin was lowering his leg, his face twisted in disgust. His friends stood behind him, staring at me with open hatred. No one in the pack despised me more than Martin. He always took out his bitterness on me—especially because Tracy would never return his feelings.
He snorted. “The fat thing thinks she can stand with the noblemen and noblewomen of the pack.”
That was enough to remind me of my place. I didn’t try to approach again. I retreated to a pillar and gripped it tightly, afraid someone might decide to kick me again just for breathing near them.
Then the elders appeared on the balcony of the Moon Goddess temple, overlooking the crowd. Among them, my father stood out the most.
The other elders wore stern, unreadable expressions, their faces set in stone. But my father’s eyes shone with pride. His shoulders were squared, his posture tall, and his smile stretched wide.
He was convinced Tracy would become the Luna of the pack. Years ago, a seer had told him a Luna would rise from his household—and that prophecy had made his confidence untouchable.
The castle’s center suddenly brightened. I looked up just in time to see the full moon reveal itself overhead. I turned away, refusing to hope. I’d never expected to have a mate—if I ever bonded to anyone, I was sure he’d reject me… or hate me until it killed me.
Then a wave of joyful gasps swept through the arena.
I looked back and saw Alpha Damon standing beneath a beam of moonlight, as if the moon itself had chosen him.
And then—light flared around me.
My mind blanked. My body went rigid with shock. The entire arena fell into a deafening silence, so complete I could hear the hard swallow in my own throat.
“Mate!”
The growl snapped through the quiet. Trembling, I turned toward the sound—and there he was. Alpha Damon stared straight at me, his eyes already bleeding into red. Something deep and undeniable pulled tight between us, a connection so real my skin prickled and my body reacted to his gaze.
“Impossible!” Tracy’s scream tore through the air, sharp enough to sting.
My heart stumbled.
I looked at her just as she bolted for the gate. I blinked, confused—because I couldn’t bring myself to answer the question pounding in my head.
Was I Alpha Damon’s mate?
ALEXANDERI felt soft lips on my forehead. I opened my eyes slightly, overjoyed, and squinted happily as I looked into his.“Good morning,” I mumbled.Chris looked at me and whispered, “It’s time to go home.”I nodded slowly. I was surprised to see that he had bought another outfit for me. After I quickly changed, we went through the tunnel and made our way to the parked car.We got in, and he drove me to a bar in town. It wasn’t too busy since it was dawn. There were only a few pedestrians and fewer cars, mostly people heading to their offices. He looked at me and said, “You shouldn’t spend all your days at home. You can work at this bar, so you can learn more about the city.”“I agree with you,” I replied. We got out of the car and walked toward the bar. Aside from a cleaner sweeping and mopping the floor, no one else was there. At the counter, the cleaner raised her head and said, “Mr. Chris, the manager is in his office. You’re lucky—he was about to go out to see his new girl, but
ALEXANDERIt was too late when I realized I had fallen into her trap. Her fist had already shot forward, but I was quicker, retreating just before it could land squarely on my chest.I flew backward, losing my footing.Mira looked at me with a cold smile. “Ain’t you going to fight anymore?”Then I heard a faint voice in my heart.“Transform.”I glanced toward Chris. His face was expressionless, but I already knew he was the one who had sent the message. I didn’t question why he wanted me to transform.I turned back to Mira, my eyes growing cold. “As you wish.”A sharp squeaking sound filled the air, followed by the sickening crack of bones shifting and snapping into place. The pain rattled me deeply; it was unbearable, but I gritted my teeth and endured it until the transformation was complete. The moment it ended, I moved. Before Mira could even react, I swatted her across the room and sent her crashing into the wall. The instant her back slammed against it, I lunged forward, caught
ALEXANDERWhen I saw Chris on the floor, he was back on his feet in a flash. He burst into exaggerated laughter, then said with a grin, “Again!”I didn’t hesitate. The moment I moved, I struck him with a swipe of my claw and sent him flying. He landed hard on the floor and looked up at me in surprise.I was surprised too. The first time I hit him, I told myself he simply hadn’t been prepared. But this time, he had been fully ready, and I still managed to land the blow.“What a powerful wolf,” Chris said with a sigh. “The speed, the accuracy, the strength... I can only win if I’m in my wolf form.”I stayed quiet. I didn’t know how to react. For years, I had dreamed of and wished for this day, but now that it had finally come, I didn’t even know how I felt.Chris looked at me casually and said, “Attack me again.”I was just about to move when a shout rang out from behind him.“Enough!”Both of us turned toward the voice and saw Mira striding over. Her face was dark, and she glared at me
ALEXANDERChris’s eyes dimmed as he replied to her gloomily, “Mira, you need to show great respect to my wife. She is the Luna of the pack, not you. I haven’t fallen in love with you in the past three years, I do not love you now, and nothing in the future will change my decision. I hope you can respect my choice and stop dreaming of us ending up together.”Hearing Chris’s harsh words, I realized he was truly angry at Mira for what she had just said. Without hesitation, I decided to claim him.I reached out and wrapped an arm possessively around his waist, then looked at Mira with open contempt. From the corner of my eye, I caught the surprise on Chris’s face.I sneered at Mira. “Chris is my husband. I don’t like other women entertaining thoughts about him. I am jealous and possessive, and I have no intention of sharing my man with anyone—especially not with you.”Mira glared at me with hostility, but her stare did not intimidate me at all. Instead, it only made me bolder. The days of
ALEXANDERChris ignored Peter completely and walked straight to me. He helped me to my feet and said, “I’m sorry you got hurt. Next time, idiots like him won’t get the chance to do something like that.”Although his words touched my heart, I was still upset by Peter calling me a weak woman. I had grown up being called an ugly girl—was I supposed to endure another humiliating label too?I turned to Peter with cold eyes and sneered. “I may be weak today, but tomorrow I’ll show you my strength and make you eat your words.”Peter looked at me strangely, then burst into laughter. He laughed so hard his body convulsed. After a moment, he stopped, slipped one hand into his pocket, and said, “I’m sorry.”The corner of my lips twitched as I wondered what game he was playing. How could he switch from hostile to friendly in the blink of an eye?Peter waved a hand and said, “Don’t think too much about it. I’ve always wondered what kind of woman could make Chris, who has lived like a monk, fall in
ALEXANDERI turned around, unease curling in my chest. The idea of getting married did not seem pleasant at all, especially after everything I had gone through at the hands of Alpha Damon. He had treated me worse than trash, and at times, it felt as though he had never truly accepted me as his wife.I lowered my head and furrowed my brows. Before I realized it, Chris’s palm rested gently on my arm. I lifted my head and met his eyes, which were filled with sincerity.“You don’t need to feel pressured. Whenever you are ready, I will walk down the aisle with you.”Hearing those words moved my heart. I reached out and hugged him tightly, and he wrapped his arms around me in return. The warmth of his embrace soothed my racing heart. He leaned down and pressed a soft kiss to my neck before ruffling my hair. Then he said, “I’ll be leaving the house soon. Take care of yourself.”He placed a gentle kiss on my forehead before walking out of my room. A moment later, he got into his car and drove
ALEXANDERI became worried and anxiously reminded him, “Dad, you were there when he threatened me in the elders’ council hall. He meant it. He came to my room last night and told me he would send me to those envoys’ bed, Dad…”To my shock, my father’s face remained expressionless. I could not tell w
ALEXANDER I listened to Christina’s suggestion and followed her outside. She led me to the former queen’s garden and began introducing me to the flowers planted there. What truly caught my attention, however, were the statues scattered around the garden.I heard Christina say, “This is the first qu
ALEXANDERChristina’s words lingered in my mind, haunting me for the rest of the day. Even during lunch, when I noticed that far more meat than usual had been served at the table, I couldn’t shake off the strange unease settling in my chest. The feeling only worsened whenever I caught the palace ma
ALEXANDERI chewed what was in my mouth. I hadn’t had a meal that good in years, and the look on his face wasn’t enough to make me stop. I gulped it down without raising my head, continuing to wolf down the spread of delicacies on the table until I heard the scrape of his chair as he stood and walk
