LOGINNala Oka has loved Ivan Winters for as long as she can remember. Though they were once childhood friends, Ivan barely remembers the bond they shared, while Nala has never forgotten him. After a drunken one-night encounter leaves her pregnant, Nala finds herself trapped in a shotgun marriage to a man who resents her. When tragedy strikes and she delivers a stillborn baby, Ivan's blame only deepens the divide between them. Branded a gold digger and denied the affection she longs for, Nala endures a loveless marriage, determined to make the best of her circumstances. Her fragile hopes are shattered when Ivan's former lover returns and Nala discovers he has been unfaithful. Worse still, he has built a family with another woman. Heartbroken, Nala signs the divorce papers and walks away, determined never to look back. Years later, fate brings them together again when Nala becomes a surrogate for her best friend. No longer the timid woman Ivan once knew, she refuses to tolerate his anger or control. But as old secrets come to light and long-standing misunderstandings begin to unravel, both are forced to confront painful truths about their past. Now Ivan is determined to win back the woman he once pushed away. Yet Nala knows all too well the cost of trusting him. As buried feelings resurface and old wounds threaten to reopen, she must decide whether some loves deserve a second chance—or whether walking away remains the only path to happiness.

Age: 26 I look down at the man kneeling before me. As whispers ring out around us, I can't help but feel embarrassed by it all. "Stand up, Mr. Winters. You're making everyone uncomfortable." As my ex-husband looks up, I see desperate tears in his eyes. "Nala, please... give me another chance. I know I've wronged you this whole time, so please... let me make this up to you." I clench my fists as I watch this pitiful man. Once upon a time, I would have taken him back. Even now, I love him with all my heart. It's something I can't help. However, I can't get weak now. I'm not alone anymore. "Why should I?" I ask him calmly. "Why do I have to bend to your whims every time? I can't do that anymore." I grit my teeth. "Just because you're the great Ivan Winters doesn't mean you can have everything you want." Ivan flinches and looks down, his body trembling. Oh, how the mighty have fallen! The great and powerful CEO can't buy me with sweet words and promises anymore, nor can he intimidate me with fists and harsh words. Before he can say anything, my daughter, Akita, cuts in. "You tried to take us by force, and now you want to act nice?" She stands in front of me and holds her arms out as a protective measure. "I don't buy it for a second!" I can't help but smile at her fierce loyalty. Meanwhile, my youngest, Noah, clings to my leg and hides from the big, scary man. "I-I wanna go home, Mama..." he whispers, his blue eyes brimming with tears. I offer a small smile and nod. "We'll be home soon," I murmur gently before directing my attention back to Ivan. "I won't hurt any of you again!" Ivan promises fiercely. "I was blinded by Kass for so long that I never saw through her. All along, it was you that I wanted and loved." "Ha!" A small laugh comes from behind me, and my best friend, Ky, stands next to me. "Is that so? Well, too bad you've ruined it forever then, huh?" she coos to him. "Call me whatever you like, but at least I'm not absolute trash like you." Ivan's eyes darken in frustration. He must hate all the interference he's getting. It makes me wonder if he thinks he'd be able to get to me if I were alone. With how much of a pushover I was before, he probably does. "Mr. Winters," I start, giving a polite and distant tone on purpose. "No matter how much you beg, my answer will remain the same. Until you truly understand how much you've hurt me, nothing will change." As I reach down and pick up Noah, Ivan speaks again. "You need me, Nala. You can't take care of our son properly without my help. We can make this work! Please just give me a chance! I won't ever disappoint or hurt you again." Ky laughs again while I shake my head. "Take a look at this guy! How pathetic!" She walks over to Ivan and steps on one of his hands with the heel of her shoe. "Give it up. She doesn't need you when she has me. I'm way richer than you'll ever be." Ivan flinches and glares up at Ky while her green eyes sparkle with delight. I sigh and shake my head. "She's enjoying herself way too much." "Ky, that's enough." As she pouts and steps away from Ivan, I take a deep breath. "Mr. Winters, you wanted it to be this way. You can't suddenly regret it and think I'll just jump at the opportunity to be with you." My eyes narrow. "Of course, that's what you always called me, right? An opportunist who was only ever after your money? Well, you've been wrong all along." Ivan grimaces and looks down, ashamed. However, all I do is walk past him, done with this conversation. "Now, if you don't mind, Noah's scared and wants to go home." He doesn't try to stop me this time and just remains where he is on the ground, still crying as if he lost something so important to him. Why, though, when he's never wanted me from the beginning? As I walk with my little family and best friend, I can't help but wonder where things started going wrong between us. How did I, a simple, low-paid social worker, get entangled with a rich CEO like Ivan? So many years have passed since then, but our story started long before that. He may not remember those days, but I do quite well. It's the whole reason I'm hopelessly devoted to Ivan Winters. Of course, I'm getting ahead of myself. This misfortune started over six years ago with a single mistake that changed our lives forever.Ivan As soon as I get to the office, I make my way over to Janice to get the report. "You and Lloyd have everything together, right? Hand it here." I hold out my hand, expecting her to hand it to me. Janice, however, looks a bit guilty as she does so. Before I can ask why, she speaks up. "This is your copy. Lloyd also made one for the chairwoman." She dips her head apologetically. My heart sinks as I stare at the older woman. I know she isn't the one who betrayed me, but it still hurts to know she let this happen. I hold the file tightly as I make my way into my office, where I know Grandmother is waiting for me. I shut the door behind me and narrow my eyes, seeing Lloyd standing just behind and beside Grandmother. He looks at me with unblinking eyes, his allegiance obvious. Just how many more are spies? "Take a seat, Ivan," Grandmother orders, looking up from her reading. "And stop glaring like that. You're not a toddler anymore." She leans back in my chair. Of course she'
Nala I haven't been feeling well the past several days. I can hardly sleep, and when I do, I wake up in cold sweats. Also, the smell of certain foods makes me nauseous, especially meat and fish. I'm not one to complain, so I kept it hidden. That is, until last night, when Ky picked me up after work. We usually hang out on the weekends, but after that one night, I refused to let her drag me out to another nightclub or bar. I won't ever go through that again. The moment I step into Ky's house, a wave of nausea causes me to stagger. As Owen comes to greet us, I rush past him and head into the guest bathroom, barely making it to the trash bin before I empty my stomach into it. My throat burns, and my eyes water. It always hurts to throw up, but it's also incredibly embarrassing. Normally, I get odd, judgmental stares, especially since people assume I do it to myself. "Nala! Are you alright?!" I hear Ky's worried voice faintly, though all I can do is cough and pant heavily. It's hard
Ivan ~One Month Later~ Pushing everything aside, life goes on as normal. My weekends are still busy, but in a happy and pleasant way. I work hard on making a perfect homecoming for Kass and even get her some jewelry as a gift. Everything is just me making up for that mistake on that fateful Friday night. Kass will never find out, but either way, I still feel terrible about it. Since nothing comes on the news about any scandals, it will remain hidden forever. Soon enough, our five-year anniversary is finally here. We've been together for a long time before I finally pop the question. In worrying about everything being perfect, I take way longer to propose than normal. "What took you so long?!" I laugh faintly as I hear Kass's annoyed yet joyful voice in my mind. I'm surprised she didn't hit me harder back then, but in the end, everything worked out. That morning, after breakfast and a shower, I get dressed in my best suit with shy Amy's help and make my way downstairs. Robert wai
Nala "I couldn't find you anywhere last night! Who knew you were here, shacking up?" Ky hums softly. "Was the guy handsome? Did he like you?" My head is still swimming from a hangover, even if I don't let it show. It's easy for me to hide things from people. Even now, Ky has no idea her voice is giving me a massive headache or that my back and waist are incredibly sore. "It was him, Ky," I say, looking down at my lap. "That boy I told you about... my childhood friend." I close my eyes tightly. I can still see his panic and anger when he realized I wasn't "Kass." "Oh?" Ky thinks for a moment as if she'd forgotten, then beams. "Ah! That boy you always talked about! You had a huge crush on him! I'm happy you finally found him." My expression darkens, and I look down. "What's wrong?" Ky frowns. "Don't tell me he did something against your will..." "No!" I immediately say, shooting my head back up. "Not at all! I just..." I trail off and frown. "He doesn't... remember me. He had no
Ivan As I drink, I start to drown out the others and look around. No one ever says anything of note after about fifteen minutes, so it's no big deal. Now we're just hanging out, drinking, and having our own form of fun. I take another drink, already on my third, and relax. It takes a while for al
Ivan My day starts like any other, to the point of boredom. I ring a bell next to my bed, and a maid walks inside, pushing a cart with my breakfast. Today's meal consists of eggs Benedict, smoked salmon, and a side of fresh summer fruit. My favorite thing here, though, is the plain black coffee,
Nala Age: 20 My day starts like any other, though today I have something to look forward to: the weekend. Friday will be busier than any other day, but it will just make it go by faster. I also love my work as a social worker. Being small and unthreatening helps a lot when I'm working with scare
