JASMINE

It's Mate meeting day, and Daisy, Eva, and I are in my room getting dressed. Daisy bought a maroon-colored Mermaid dress, Eva bought a blue-colored dress, and I bought a short purple halter-neck bodycon dress with a slit at the front.

I look at myself in the mirror; my complexion looks better, my round face looks pretty, my pouty lips are shiny, and my full curly hair hangs down my back.

“I look beautiful,” I mutter to myself, “I can’t believe this is me.”

“Well, that’s you, and you indeed look fabulous, cute, and sexy,” says Eva as she hugs me from behind.

“I’m sure a lot of eyes will be on you,” Daisy says with a wink.

I’m sure too, now that my mate passed, a lot of men who have not gotten their mate will try to ask for my hand. I don’t think I’m ready for that. I just want to live for myself.

For years, I’ve waited and kept myself for my mate so I can experience the never-ending love that comes with the Mate bond like my parents and other mated members in the pack. Now that I’ve found my mate and lost him, I just want to love myself. I want to give myself hope, so even though I’ve lost my wolf, I can still live. I’m

“It’s almost time, let’s go so we won’t be late,” Eva says, eager to go find her mate.

“Someone is eager to find her mate,” Daisy teased.

Just like me, Eva has been waiting patiently to experience love from her mate.

“You guys go, I will come after I take my medications,” I shooed them out of my room.

I still feel weak and tired, but nothing a good rest and medication can’t fix. I decide to nap for a while.

MAVERICK

My pack members and I arrived at the ivory pack just on time. They welcomed us warmly, and we all headed towards the designated spot for my pack.

I feel my wolf stir like something here belonged to us, but I pay no attention and focus on what we came here for.

“Alpha Maverick, thank you for honoring us with your presence,” Alpha Allen says, approaching me.

“No, thank you for inviting us,” I responded as he ushered me towards the gathering area.

Almost all the packs have arrived, and a lot of people meet their mate and celebrate, while some have not met their mate. There is still time; not all packs have arrived with their members.

I find a corner to sit as I’m not interested in all that is happening around me. I’m eager for this day to come to an end, and we all head back to our various packs.

I feel my wolf getting excited and happy. I don’t know the reason, but it’s a good thing because it’s been so long since I feel my wolf this excited. It must be good to leave the pack.

JASMINE

“Jasmine”

I heard someone call my name, and I jolted awake because the voice sounded familiar.

“Jasmine”

I hear that same voice calling out to me again.

“Alexa, is that you?” I ask in my head, hoping I’m not wrong and it’s my wolf calling out to me.

“Yes, it's me,” she answered weakly.

“Alexa, I thought you were gone,” I say as I climb out of bed, excited that my wolf is very much alive.

“Of course I’m alive, the broken mate bond rendered me weak, and I’ve been recuperating,” she answered me sassily.

“I’m so happy you are awake,” I say as I put on my shoes, ready to go join others outside.

“I feel different, like when we met our mate,” she says, and I stop.

“How can you feel like that when our mate is dead” I say sadly, “our mate is dead and not coming back, I’m sure you are mistaken.” I say to her, “Go back to sleep".

I leave my room, walk down the stairs, and out the door. I see a lot of people scattered around the pack, and a lot of them are couples; it seems a lot of people found their mate.

I continue my walk around the pack searching for Eva and Daisy. Not long after, I saw Eva with a guy, and I walked over to them.

“Finally, you showed up. Meet my mate Adam,” Eva says excitedly. “Adam, meet Jasmine, my best friend,” she introduces us.

“Nice meeting you, which pack are you from?” I ask curiously.

“I’m from the Black Moon Pack” Adam answered me.

I looked at Eva longingly, knowing that by tomorrow, she would leave for her Mate pack.

“Do you know where Daisy is?” I ask Eva, looking around to see if I will sight her around.

“Where else will she be? Of course, with her mate,” she answered jokingly! “Anywhere Jacob is, Daisy will surely be close. Find Jacob, and you will find Daisy.”

“Okay, see you later,” I waved her bye, and I continued my search for Daisy.

I searched for a while, and I still did not see Daisy. My search led me to the gathering arena, and I knew I was going to meet Daisy there.

Immediately, I entered the arena, and I heard my wolf call out “Mate,” and I stopped.

Sadness. Confusion. Understanding. And maybe… comfort. The hallway suddenly feels too small.Too quiet.Too intimate.Jax is unusually calm inside me now.“She understands us.”Maybe she does. For the first time since the bond formed, I don’t feel like I’m speaking to someone who only sees me as a burden forced into her life by fate. She sees my grief too.And somehow that makes this strange connection between us even more dangerous.Because emotional bonds become real long before romantic ones do.Jasmine lowers her eyes first.“I should rest,” she whispers softly.I nod immediately despite the strange disappointment curling inside my chest.“Yes. You’ve had a long day.”I open the door to her room for her, but before she enters, she suddenly pauses. Then quietly asks:“What was her name?

Her body stiffens slightly under my hand while unease rolls off her scent.Good.At least I’m not the only one suspicious.“The Alpha King has been searching for you,” the messenger repeats calmly. My aura immediately darkens.“For what reason?” I ask coldly. The messenger finally shifts his attention toward me.“To deliver a royal summons.”Absolutely not.The answer rises instantly inside my head before he even finishes speaking.Jax growls dangerously.“No one takes mate.”The messenger reaches into his coat before pulling out a scroll sealed with black wax and the royal crest of the werewolf kingdom.“The Alpha King requests

His body shifts slightly in front of mine protectively, almost like a shield separating me from the rest of the world.Jax growls softly inside him.“Protect mate.”The warrior standing at the door lowers his head nervously.“The messenger is waiting downstairs, Alpha.”Maverick’s jaw tightens dangerously.“How much does he know?”“I’m not sure, Alpha,” the warrior admits quickly. “But he specifically asked to see the female.”A cold chill runs down my spine instantly. The female. Not even my name.Elder Miriam suddenly grips her cane tightly.“That’s bad,” she whispers.Selene folds her arms again, though this time she lo

MAVERICK Silence suffocates the room after Jasmine speaks.“The bond has awakened.”The words settle heavily in the air like a death sentence.Jax is pacing wildly inside my head now.“She saw something.”I know. And judging from the fear in Elder Miriam’s eyes, whatever Jasmine experienced is far worse than any of us realize.Jasmine looks shaken to her core.
