Alex Rivera stormed through the revolving glass doors of Vale Tower at 7:42 a.m. briefcase gripped tightly like a weapon. The marble lobby shone under lights but the atmosphere already felt heavy on his chest. He had not even sat at his desk yet and the knot in his stomach told him this job might kill him before the first paycheck cleared.

"Mr. Rivera." A crisp voice cut through the morning rush. A tall woman in a tailored suit blocked his path. "Mr. Vale wants to see you away. Top floor. Do not keep him waiting."

Alexs jaw tightened. "I start at eight. My contract says orientation first." He thought to himself _What is going on here?_

The womans expression did not change. "Mr. Vale does not care what your contract says. Elevator on the left. Now." She seemed to be enjoying the power she had over him.

He exhaled sharply. Headed for the private lift. His heart was racing. He stepped inside. Watched the numbers climb. Forty floors of steel and silence. When the doors opened another assistant waited. No greetings, a quick scan of his badge before leading him down a hallway lined with floor-to-ceiling windows.

Rowan Vale stood at the end of the massive office back turned, staring over the city like it was his own. Because it was. Broad shoulders filled a cut charcoal suit. Dark hair, jawline visible even from behind. The air felt thinner here. Alex thought, _This guy seems to be in control._

"You’re late " Rowan said without turning around. His voice was low controlled. Carried the weight of absolute authority.

"I was told to start at eight " Alex replied, keeping his tone even. "If you wanted me earlier the contract should have stated it." He was trying to stand up for himself.

Rowan finally faced him. Gray eyes, silver under the lights locked onto Alex with unnerving intensity. Close the man was taller than expected presence heavier. A faint scar traced along his eyebrow barely noticeable unless you looked hard. Alex refused to look first.

"Contracts mean nothing if I decide otherwise " Rowan stated. He stepped closer invading space deliberately. "You signed on to deliver results, Rivera. Not excuses. Your predecessor lasted six weeks. Try not to break that record." Alex felt like he was being sized up.

Heat rose in Alex’s chest. "Then give me work instead of power plays before I’ve even logged in." He was getting frustrated.

A ghost of something flickered across Rowan’s face. Not quite a smile. "Bold. Most new hires tremble. You glare." He circled Alex slowly like assessing prey. "I wonder how long that fire lasts when real pressure hits."

Alex turned with him refusing to be circled. "Keep wondering.. Hand me the files and let me do the job you’re paying me for." He was trying to stay focused.

Rowan stopped directly in front of him. Close enough that Alex caught the scent of expensive cologne and something sharper underneath. Their eyes clashed again. For a second the room felt too small the silence loud.

"You have until end of day to review the campaign and find every flaw " Rowan ordered. "Present fixes in my office at seven. Fail and you walk out with nothing but the memory of wasting my time." Alex felt a surge of anxiety.

"Understood." Alex held the stare a beat longer than necessary.

As he turned to leave Rowan’s voice followed, quieter but no softer. "One more thing, Rivera. In this building loyalty is not optional. Cross me. You will regret it in ways you cannot imagine."

Alex paused at the door. "Threat noted.. I don’t scare easy." He was trying to show that he was not intimidated.

He walked out before Rowan could respond, pulse racing. The elevator ride down felt longer than the one, up. By the time he reached his assigned floor colleagues shot him glances. Someone whispered, " called upstairs? You’re either brave or suicidal."

Alex dropped into his chair. Opened the files. The Meridian project was a mess so he suspected. Hours blurred as he tore it apart notes piling up with efficiency.

At 6:45 p.m. His phone buzzed. Unknown number.

Meet me in the garage. Level B3. Now. Do not tell anyone.

No signature. Alex stared at the message. Every instinct screamed trap. Curiosity and the earlier confrontation pushed him forward. He grabbed his coat. Headed down.

The garage was dimly lit, concrete echoing his footsteps. A black car idled in the corner. Rowan stepped out jacket gone shirt sleeves rolled up.

"You came " Rowan said.

"You summoned." Alex stopped a feet away. "What is this?" He was trying to stay calm.

Rowan moved fast. In two strides he had Alex backed against a pillar one hand braced beside his head. Not touching,. Close enough the heat radiated. "You think you can speak to me like that in my building?"

Alex’s breath hitched despite himself. Anger and something electric twisted together. "I think you’re testing me. See if I’ll break." He was trying to stay strong.

Rowan’s gaze dropped to Alex’s mouth for a fraction of a second. "Maybe I am. Maybe I want to see what it takes."

The tension crackled. Alex shoved at Rowan’s chest. The man did not budge. Instead Rowan caught his wrist, grip firm yet not painful. Their faces were inches apart.

"Let go " Alex warned, voice rough.

"Make me." Rowan’s words were a challenge.

For one suspended moment Alex considered it. Punching him. Kissing him. Both felt equally possible. Instead he twisted free. Stepped sideways. "I’ll have the presentation ready. Seven sharp. Try not to waste my time."

He walked away legs steadier than he felt. Behind him Rowan’s low laugh echoed before being swallowed by concrete. Alex thought to himself _That was intense._

Godsword
Rowan looks more like an intimidating alpha male with his manipulative/ dominant humor. Alex on the other hand is still tryna stay morally grounded, but how long can he resist the sweet temptation…? It’s really intriguing….

  • The Cage Between Us    You Don't Know Rowan at all

The words echoed in Alex’s mind like a persistent whisper that refused to fade. *You don't know Rowan at all.* Elias had said them with such calm certainty during their warehouse meeting, his eyes gleaming with the confidence of someone who believed he held all the cards. Alex sat on the edge of the bed in the penthouse the next morning, staring at the city skyline through the windows while Rowan slept beside him. The man’s arm was still draped possessively across his waist, breath warm against his back, but the peace Alex had felt after their emotional reunion now felt fragile, cracked by the seeds of doubt Elias had so expertly planted. He slipped out of bed carefully, not wanting to wake Rowan yet. The kitchen offered no comfort as he made coffee, the routine movements doing little to silence the voice in his head. Elias had laid out dates, names, connections that aligned too neatly with what Marcus had shared. Julian’s disappearance. The offshore accounts. The way Rowan had allege

  • The Cage Between Us    The Ghost In The Mirror

The video from Elias had changed everything. The confirmation that his brother was alive — not just surviving but actively orchestrating years of sabotage — had left Rowan in a state of controlled fury mixed with profound grief. Alex watched him pace the penthouse living room the next morning, the man’s usual commanding presence fractured by the weight of the revelation. They had barely slept, the "I need you" from the previous days now carrying new urgency in the face of the ghost stepping fully into the light."You should not go alone," Rowan said for the third time, stopping in front of Alex. His gray eyes were haunted, the scar above his eyebrow standing out against pale skin. "He is dangerous. He took you once already."Alex stood from the couch and caught Rowan’s hands, holding them steady. The love between them felt forged in fire now, stronger after the separation, the kidnapping, and Rowan’s complete collapse. "He asked for me specifically. If I do not go, he will escalate. W

  • The Cage Between Us    The Ghost Unveiled

The boardroom on the top floor of Vale Tower felt like a pressure cooker ready to explode. Sunlight streamed through the floor-to-ceiling windows, illuminating the long mahogany table where twelve men and women sat with faces carved from stone. Victor Hale occupied the seat to the right of the chairman, his smile sharp and satisfied. Rowan stood at the head of the table, shoulders squared, but Alex could see the faint tremor in his hands from where he watched through the glass wall of the adjacent observation lounge. The investigation into Rowan’s leadership had reached its climax, and the room crackled with the kind of tension that preceded executions.Alex’s heart pounded against his ribs. The last few days since the kidnapping and Rowan’s complete collapse had been a whirlwind of healing and preparation. They had spent nearly every waking moment together, secret meetings turning into open strategy sessions, late-night conversations evolving into shared dreams of a future beyond the

  • The Cage Between Us    First "I Need You"**

The afternoon light filtered through the penthouse windows, casting long golden beams across the master bedroom floor. Alex lay on his side, watching Rowan sleep. The man looked younger in repose, the harsh lines of constant control softened by exhaustion and the emotional purge of the previous night. Dark circles still lingered under his eyes from the twelve-hour search, but his breathing was deep and even, one arm thrown possessively across Alex’s waist even in sleep. Alex traced a gentle finger along Rowan’s jaw, feeling the faint stubble, the scar above his eyebrow, the warmth of skin that had become his anchor in this storm. The realization from the park bench and the long night afterward had settled deep into Alex’s bones. Rowan had completely broken for him. Not the controlled fractures of past arguments, but a total collapse — searching the city like a man possessed, crying alone in his car, kneeling in a dirty warehouse beside an empty chair. That level of devotion, raw and u

  • The Cage Between Us    Realization

The grass in the small park was damp with morning dew, but neither man cared. Rowan knelt before Alex on the bench, arms locked around his waist as if the world might rip him away again at any second. Alex held on just as tightly, fingers buried in Rowan’s dark hair, breathing in the familiar scent of cologne mixed with sweat and exhaustion. The sun had barely risen, painting the sky in soft pinks and golds, but the moment felt suspended outside of time."You searched for twelve hours," Alex whispered, voice thick with emotion. He pulled back just enough to see Rowan’s face. The man looked wrecked — eyes bloodshot and swollen from crying, knuckles raw and bruised, clothes rumpled from a night of frantic movement. This was not the controlled CEO who had commanded his body and heart for months. This was Rowan stripped bare, and the sight made Alex’s chest ache with overwhelming love and realization.Rowan nodded, not trusting his voice at first. His hands trembled as they cupped Alex’s

  • The Cage Between Us    Twelve Hours of hell

Rowan Vale had not slept in thirty-six hours. The moment Alex’s text stopped replying and the tracking on his phone went dark, something primal inside him snapped. The board investigation, Victor’s smirking face in the hallway, Elias’s latest taunting message — all of it faded into white noise. Only one thing mattered: Alex was gone.He started in the penthouse, tearing through rooms with methodical fury. The guest bedroom where Alex had slept during their silence. The couch where they had held each other after the debt fight. The kitchen island still bearing faint marks from their passionate nights. Every corner screamed absence. Rowan’s hands shook as he checked the security feeds, rewinding to the moment Alex left the tower via the side exit. The alley camera showed the black van. The struggle. The cloth over Alex’s mouth. Then nothing."Twelve hours," Rowan muttered to the empty room, voice cracking. "I have twelve hours before I burn this city down."He called every contact in hi

The weight of what happened the night before still felt heavy in the penthouse like the fog that covers the city in the morning.
