As the stinging sensation traveled through my cheek, the goblet slipped from my fingers and shattered against the marble floor. Wine splashed across the broken pieces like spilled blood. I pressed my burning cheek, staring at the smirk stretched across Liora's face.

But what shook me most wasn't the pain from the slap. It was the person standing opposite me.

My father.

The man I thought would stand for me had actually slapped me. His eyes blazed with anger and unbridled hatred. It was as though the words I had spoken were an abomination. A sacrilegious attempt to smear my family and the entire pack.

His voice thundered once more.

"In a bid to stop the mating between Alpha Xavier and your sister, you could go to any length? How could you be so vicious as to lie about a bond five years ago?"

I squeezed my eyes shut for the briefest second. Not even one question and not even a chance to explain. They had already written the ending of the story, and all I was expected to do was wear the villain's face.

My voice cracked as I wobbled, one hand still clutching my cheek.

"Father, I am not lying. He told me himself. Xavier..."

He cut me off with a shove that sent me tumbling backward, crashing through the chairs in the hall.

Wood splintered beneath my weight. A sharp cry escaped before I could bite it back.

Blood seeped from my palms and knees as I scraped across the floor. My gown tore with a loud rip that echoed inside my ears far louder than the gasps around me.

I froze.

My gaze dropped to the shredded fabric gathered around my legs. Father had pushed me away countless times with words, but this...

This was the first time his hands had told me I wasn't worth holding onto.

A lump rose inside my throat.

I couldn't stop the tears from pouring or the pain from invading my body and heart. My father didn't even want to listen. All that mattered was the fact that I was lying against Xavier and Liora.

Liora stared at me before another laugh burst from her lips. "You've finally lost your mind from being abandoned by your husband."

My jaw tightened. The sound of her laughter scraped against every raw wound inside me. I struggled to my feet, wiping the tears from my face.

"You know very well that I am not lying. You heard everything that day. Xavier has always been my mate. But I would never force him to accept the bond."

My teeth ground together until my jaw ached.

Every lie spilling from her lips begged to be ripped apart, yet I knew the louder I fought, the guiltier I would look.

Liora smiled mockingly as she turned toward the gathered wolves, spreading both hands.

"Did everyone hear that? My sister believes the Alpha abandoned me because the Moon Goddess suddenly decided she deserved him."

Several wolves laughed.

Someone near the entrance muttered loudly enough for everyone to hear,

"Perhaps too much food has clouded her head."

Heat rushed into my face.

Even before the laughter spread, I could feel their eyes dragging over every inch of my body as though my weight alone proved I was guilty.

My brother walked up beside Father, disgust sitting perfectly on his face. His brows arched sharply toward me. "Father, she's embarrassing us again."

"Enough."

The single word came from Diane.

She crossed the distance between us until she stood beside the shattered chairs. "When this ceremony is over, you'll apologize to your sister."

I lifted my chin despite the tears clinging stubbornly to my lashes. "I won't apologize for telling the truth."

Her hand struck my bleeding cheek before I saw it move. The crack echoed across the hall and my head snapped sideways. The taste of iron flooded my tongue.

Tiny sparks danced across my vision even though daylight still poured through the windows.

"Truth?" Diane looked down at me. "Look around this room."

I did.

Representatives from fourteen packs filled the hall. Noble wolves, warrior wolves from different packs and Elders from both sides occupied nearly every seat.

They weren't the only ones there.

Even Alphas sat at the high table, witnessing everything unfolding before them. Some of them looked entertained while others looked indifferent but none of them looked surprised. Not one face held doubt.

Not one.

Their gazes swept over me as though I had already been judged and sentenced.

I stood in the middle of the crowded hall.

Yet I had never felt so completely alone.

Aria " Alpha Xavier is injured? What the hell happened?" The celebration dissolved into confusion before anyone realized it had already ended. Wolves poured out of the Hawthorne estate, their polished shoes sinking into damp earth as they hurried toward the eastern woods. Even the guards that held me tightly had to let me. I could see Liora's panic stricken face and father's anxious gasps. None of that was my business. I was done with this mating ceremony charade. With a sigh, I murmured to myself." It seemed the wedding is out of question. It's better I go back to my room before being accused again."And with that, I turned around to leave. Even if I can't get the love of my family or pack, one thing was certain that I can get every time.Food! With that hope in mind, I swiftly moved towards my room or so I thought. Another three minutes later and I angrily found myself at the edge of the clearing. The same fucking clearing that Alpha Xavier was in, bleeding yet looking hot. I q

"You've always wanted what belong to Liora." Diane folded her arms. "First your father's attention. Now her mate."I stared at her. For a heartbeat, I couldn't even breathe. Father's attention? A bitter laugh almost escaped me. When had I ever had Father's attention to steal? The words crowded against my tongue, but I swallowed them back. No explanation would survive in this room. Not anymore. "I never—"Father rose from his seat. "You've done enough."The legs of his chair scraped across the marble floor, the harsh sound ripping through the hall. And as if the insults and humiliation weren't enough, he added, "I welcomed you into this celebration after your disgraceful divorce because I believed you could behave with dignity for one evening."Silence wrapped around me. Not because I had nothing to say but because nothing I said had ever mattered. His gaze traveled slowly over me, lingering on my torn gown, the blood staining my knees and the wine splashed across my dress."You have

ARIALiora's voice cut through the hall before anyone could answer. Trouble always comes even when you are hidden in the shadows."You fat bitch! What did you do to my Xavier?"As I rolled my eyes at her words, the glass of wine I held in my hand tilted, spilling on my dress. The silver goblet in my hand tipped against the tablecloth. Dark wine spread across the white fabric, creeping toward the polished edge before dripping onto the marble floor. Her Xavier? He was my mate, bitch. • Too Curvy To Be Luna, Too Strong To Break    She Was Done Being Pushed Around

AriaThe glass doors slammed shut behind us. Xavier dragged me onto the balcony before anyone could stop him, before my father could challenge him, before I could remember how to breathe. The full moon seemed to be mocking me.My skin buzzed and my bones ached. Vin was whining and whimpering in my chest. I couldn't tell if she was excited or angry, just like me. “You need to explain,” I whispered. My voice shook. “What did you mean by dragging me here?” Xavier didn’t answer. He gripped the stone railing until cracks spiderwebbed under his fingers. 6’4 of Alpha barely holding the beast back. His scent rolled off him in waves, a strong lavender scent and it made my empty chest cavity hurt. When he turned, his eyes were fully gold with underlying darkness in it. They were not just Alpha's eyes. They were predator eyes marked by mate eyes. His voice came shaky.“I felt the mate bond snap into place five years ago." His voice was rough, like he’d been fighting it for years. “You were

The hall was still as Xavier's voice thundered same word."Mate" I saw his eyes changing at the same time his voice rumbled in the room, quietly though. My claws were digging hard into my clasped fingers as my whole body shook at the bond. I wished the room had silenced his words. I wouldn't have minded if my wolf was the only one that admitted the mate bond.As I stood, surrounded by the people who wouldn't think twice about hurting or berating me, my gaze locked on Alpha Xavier and I saw something strange. His expression, though cold, didn't hold pity or disgust.
