Its warm light barely reached beyond the clearing, leaving the wolves hidden beneath the cover of darkness.Beside me, Caelum rested one hand on the hilt of his sword.Aria had already nocked an arrow onto her bow.The wolves growled again and then they stepped into the firelight.One.Two.Five.Ten.By the Goddess… There were at least fifteen of them, all large wolves bigger than ordinary rogues.Their ribs showed through their patchy fur, but their eyes burned with hunger. They circled us slowly.“They’re starving,” I whispered.Caelum nodded. “Which makes them dangerous.”Very dangerous. A starving wolf didn’t think, it only hunted.One wrong move and we’d be surrounded.
