At the wheel stood the captain, tall and imposing, his face marred by a jagged scar crossing his left eye, now milky white and blind. Captain Marcus Drago gazed out into the tempest, seemingly oblivious to the elements assaulting him. His jaw was set, his posture rigid, exuding a palpable menace despite the storm's fury. This was a man to be feared, merciless and cunning, who would stop at nothing to achieve his ends. "Captain, the island is within range!" shouted his first mate over the gale. Drago's mouth curved into a cruel smile, his good eye glinting. "Excellent. Prepare to advance."

I looked up at him, trying to read his face, see if this was a joke. It wasn’t. His expression had softened, but there was still that hunger. That weight. “I—” I started, then stopped. Swallowed. “Yeah. Okay.” “Good boy,” Captain said with that crooked, cocky smile of his, the one that curled at the edges like he’d just won a bet. Like I was a prize he’d known he’d win eventually. What the hell was it with him and knowing exactly how to rattle me with two words?

Gwen held her thumb in between the rest of her fingers, keeping it safe. Mrs Gallewart took another long look at her, then let go of her folded hands. "Gwen, you know I'm not a wicked person." She began and Gwen could not find herself answering that. She almost asked her if she was being sarcastic. "I'm just a person who stands by polices and I don't bend them for anyone, no one. “George, Liam craves your cooking.” George’s voice then took over. “Millie, get yourself treated in the meantime. I’ll be there in a bit.” That night, he didn’t show up. The next morning, he sent me a photo of his cooking. “Liam had extra helpings. He’s in better shape. Is your stomach still causing issues?” I stared at the text message for a long time. My response was brief. “No.” Since then, I saved his contact as Captain Tanner. It wasn’t out of spite.

Frowning, I slowly glanced over my shoulder and the world stopped as familiar bright blue eyes met mine. Hunter Fucking Beaumont? He stretched a hand towards me, lips pressed into a thin line. “Hello, Captain.”
