I expected a score update or weather report. A breaking new banner crawled across the bottom of the screen in urgent red letters instead. BREAKING: Sadie Allister Confirmed Dead — Apparent Suicide at Private Penthouse. My fork clattered to the floor. The room spun around me, and the hum of conversation dropped into a low road like a seashell against my ear. I glanced at the TV, I blinked once, twice, as if the news would just disappear. Sadie. Gone. No. No, that couldn’t be right.

“I’m dying.” “What the fuck?” The tone in Minus’s voice immediately shifted from anger to concern. I gasped, my hand reflexively covering my mouth. “I have CRC.” “What the hell is that?” Minus asked with a slight drawl. Evidence of his time spent in Savannah. “Jesus, Minus, you sound like a goddamned hillbilly,” Cutter said with a chuckle. “Colorectal cancer,” Warthog sang out, in a mock country singer voice, to a cheery tune that did not fit the lyrics.

The morgue was quiet and cold. In Drawer 404, the body labeled SUSPECT ZERO lay in a black body bag. The coroner’s report was clipped to the front. The report was as good as anyone's guess. Died from burns and decapitation from the great falls he suffered. His spinal cord was completely crushed.

He went to the switch board fixed to one of the pillars in the parking lot and put his finger into the socket. His body shook with passing electricity surprising Victor and he died on the spot.
