"That's some serious dedication right there. Me? I once took a dare from my college roommates and ate a pizza topped with anchovies, pineapple, and hot sauce. The combination was... unforgettable, and not in a good way. Our laughter mingled, filling the space with ease and creating a bubble of comfort amidst the day's tasks. It was these lighthearted exchanges, sharing silly stories over a simple lunch, that made the days feel vibrant and connected, like we were building a collection of shared memories one meal at a time.

"What’s the craziest campaign you’ve ever worked on?" I chuckled, recalling a particularly wild project. "Oh, there was this one time we decided to launch a product with a flash mob. It was chaotic but so much fun. We ended up going viral." Harreld laughed, clearly entertained. "That sounds incredible! I would have loved to see that." As we chatted, the initial tension between us began to fade, replaced by an easy camaraderie. I found myself relaxing, enjoying his company more than I had anticipated. "Okay, your turn," I said, leaning back and crossing my arms. "What do you do outside of being... well, you?"

And so, on and on ,like the osscilation of a pendulum, the disheartening piece of my bio churned while the sands of time dripped slowly and slowly as it watched my narration irks the soul of the spectators. That I thought, but it appeared to be nothing but a blunt lie. It was a revolving piece of gags and laughs. A piece of funny cake, a chunk of interesting cheese, a loaf of an adventurous bread and a real ginger to the spirits of the audience. They applauded.

he told me, and I burst into laughter. "With this face? Isn't that hilarious?" I wondered. "What's so funny, bro?" he asked, surprised. I got up, cleaned my face with my palms, and said, "Everything's funny – the accident, seven years in a coma, and now making a public appearance with this face." "You aren't the first to have met this fate," he said. "Well, I know the Frankenstein monster did," I replied. "I'm not talking about movies," he snapped. "That's my favorite movie," I said.

And he wasn’t wrong. When I was fourteen, I got bored and decided to spice up one of his quarterly board meetings. So I snuck into the kitchen and had the house staff swap the sparkling water with a little experimental digestive I was mixing for fun. The entire boardroom emptied out in ten minutes. Suits flew as old men clutched their stomachs and bolted for the bathrooms like their lives depended on it I sat on the counter, laughing so hard I could barely breathe, the camera clutched in my hands. To this day, it’s still the funniest thing I’ve ever seen.

“I remember! He made you all clean the stables for a month!” The door opened, and Ansre walked in. He stopped as he entered inside and raised his eyebrows in surprise. He was staring at me, at my laughing face. I wiped a tear from my eye and noded at him. “Andre. Come in. We are just remembering the Great Mud Ditch disaster of our youth.” Andre walked over, with a small hesitant smile on his face. “Let me in on the joke. I need a good story.” I recounted it again, and Andre laughed too, it sounded genuine. Good. Normal.

“Sounds like pure trash wrapped in muscle to me.” I smiled at that. “Right?” We sat there a moment, like we were all remembering our own worst times. And then Kim said it again, quieter this time. “You know what’s funny? When it’s happening to you, however bad it is, you still think maybe next time… you’ll know better. But you don’t.” We all laughed at this so hard we were basically acting like old friends. “That’s not funny,” Zane said with a small, sad laugh. “That’s just sad.”

I love when they say that. Everyone is going around the room saying the same boring crap about how much they've enjoyed working in blah blah company working on the same whatever project for x number of years. And their personal comment is usually something like "I enjoy reading technical journals." So when they get to me, I usually do something like this: "My name is Jake. I worked for Vandalay Industries for 5 years as a latex salesman, followed by brief forays into architecture and marine biology before becoming a programmer." About 90% of the time no one is paying attention as I am saying this stuff, but that 10% of the time, it's just magic and someone will just laugh out loud.

“Cold burger in prison, that's a little too much don't you think?” She turns in my direction and shrugs “I wouldn't know Vee I've never been to prison, not even as a school trip, is that weird?” “I feel like I haven't experienced anything.” “I must have lived a very sheltered life and now I feel like I'm cheating myself by not having experiences of all of these things.”
