When Kiara finally got my hair tamed into a more reasonable order, she braided my hair in braids around each side of my head and down the back in a loose joint braid. “Done.” I looked in the mirror and was surprised. I never had the time nor the patience to make my hair look decent like this. “It looks amazing.” Kiara smiled, “Mr. Bodolf will be waiting. You should go.” I frowned at her. “Are you not coming to breakfast?”

The light flickered a couple of times. The mirror was shaded with white lines reflecting the glow from the blinks whisking rainbows along my lashes. He finally clicked the switch of the series of bulbs. "Done!" Jared, that kind lady caged in a handsome body giggled while saying that. He fixed my hair in a professional way. It's in a high bun with a wrap-around braid. He kept it loose to recreate a little messy outcome. I love it! The girlish me inside want to shake him and make him realize that he's amazing, but, "thank you" that's the only phrase I uttered, surprisingly enough to make him smile widely.

She had long black hair that touched her waist and that was all most people had seen of her. But, some people had seen than that. They had seen her fingers and her nails which were always painted black and were always covered by gloves. Some had seen her eyes which were always surrounded by black shades of eye shadow and her lips that seemed blacker each time you looked at it. But, none had noticed those bright blue irises that sparkled whenever she smiled. Neither had anyone seen her smile. They all knew her name and all she did but most of them would never recognize her if she wore a color other than black. “Makes me feel like a Queen.” Jada snorted, but rushed forward when I wobbled, nearly tipping over from where I sat on the toilet seat. Her hair was different this week, styled in two thick braids that ran down her head and dropped well below her breasts. It was one of my favorite looks I’d seen on her so far, and I made sure she knew it by calling her Jada Warrior Princess every chance I got. Hakeem’s warm eyes darted between each of wounds, all of which were slowly healing, before they made it to my face. There was a twinkle of humor there, which he quickly smothered behind a dry expression.

There’s a cloak in here” fur lined and …….a deep purple. I made a quick work of putting it on, curling my hair, I didn’t bother with make-up. At least I’ll look colorful.

******* An hour later, I hardly recognized myself in the mirror. The stylists had braided my hair, but it wasn’t a normal braid. They’d divided it into sections, weaving and twisting until the strands spiraled together like ropes of gold and ash. Tiny, clear bands held the pattern in place, while more hair was French-braided around my head. The final braid curved like a crown, framing my face. It had taken all four stylists—and Kiara holding part of my hair at one point—to complete it. It hurt. It pulled. But the end result was hypnotic. The different tones in my hair caught the light, turning it into something alive.

Now to find something feminine that didn't leave her feeling like a popsicle due to the shifting weather. She landed on a white sweater and black jeans with a large red belt and red heels. Her jacket wasn't in the closet, but Lisa had a really cool leather bomber that looked a lot like Drake’s. Sicily slipped it on, knowing that Lisa wouldn't care a bit over her borrowing it. She walked out as Drake looked back and whistled. "Damn... finest woman in Bar Harbor." He stood and slipped his hands in his pockets as his eyes raked across her. "Jake would beg to differ."

It just makes it that much sweeter that she’s now part of the family. As soon as I hit the bottom of the stairs, my youngest sister, Jade, is rushing in my direction. “So it’s true?” she demands, looking up the stairs after me. “Where is she?” “Calm down,” I laugh, pulling Jade into my arms and squeezing her tightly. “Jules is lending her something to wear, apparently my clothes weren’t good enough.” “If I’d known, I could’ve dropped something off for her while she was in the shower,” Jenna says, rounding the corner to greet me. “Hey, Jaxy.”

But I guess the goddess has other plans for me after all. Taking a few deep, calming breaths, I started again. I had to admit that when my black-streaked, silver hair was braided, it did look incredible. My mother taught me how to braid my hair like the warriors in our village did when I was a child, and I loved it. It wasn’t just a standard braid, it had twists and turns and adjoining braids knotted in. A little part of me hoped Michael would like it, which was a lie; I did it to impress him as I knew I looked good when I wore it like that.

There was a tension hovering around the writhing bodies, coiled and taut. As I reached the balcony’s ledge, I saw why. Jade moved through the crowd with ease, her pale skin bright beneath the flashing orbed lights. Her hair was in it’s usual style, a blunt bob that hovered a few inches above her shoulders. The gown she wore was emerald, embroidered with golden scales that gave her the effect of a serpent.
