Lilly stood beside her, arms crossed. “They weren’t lying about the friendliness,” she said, nodding at the first two competitors. “There’s a healer stationed in every corner.”
“They’re playing nice,” Jade said quietly, “so no one sees what’s actually going on.”
Because behind the friendly rules, smiles, and judges with clipboards, eyes were scanning the arena for more than strength.
