The connected call only carried the sounds of Jaime Walter and Derek Surrey’s pleasure. She did not seem to hear what I said. After an impatient click of her tongue, she hung up. I lowered my arms and stared at my mother’s decomposed body. My strength felt completely drained. Derek then sent me a series of messages. When I opened them, I saw videos of the two of them having sex that night. Their intimate sounds filled the room. Derek smiled in the video and asked Jaime, “You really are not giving him the miracle drug?”

She inquired, perplexed. ‘Now it is my time to confess the truth.’ I took a deep breath and spoke, "Nora, I also want to tell you the truth about Jonathan," Before I could say something more, Nora cut my words. "I've known he's a vampire since the first time I saw him. Mia, I'm a witch, and I can easily tell the difference between vampires and humans." My mouth opened in surprise. "Nora, you know I'm pleased to learn you're a witch." Her brows pinched in perplexity as I expressed my joy while holding her hand. "But I am angry because you didn't tell me about this earlier; I'm your best friend." I stared at her, disappointed.

"The best thing to do is apologize to her and make her feel good. I think you are part of the reason she doesn't want to leave." I patted his shoulders as we dived back into our conversation. "You were saying something before you were interrupted," I said as he nodded his head. "When I felt she was in danger, I found out she was in Nora's room, and it happened to be that a vampire was strangling her." I didn't want to interrupt, but I had to... what I heard didn't seem to digest well. "A vampire in Nora's room?" Matteo nodded his head. "Yes, he was asking her what she was doing in the castle and why she was together with Nora."

Nora was moving faster than any opponent I’d ever faced. Suddenly, Nora managed to catch me off guard, sweeping my legs out from under me. I hit the ground hard, the wind knocked out of me. “Stay down,” she hissed, climbing on top of me and pinning me down. Her eyes flashed with malice, her fangs slipping out. I saw her move toward my throat, right where my mating mark was, as if to… bite me. Hard. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Nicholas step forward, his hands clenched into fists. “Nora, that’s enough!” he growled. “I said no bloodshed!”

Sarah said, her eyes scanning the courtyard as she watched Mallory get to the burning pile of wood. Nora could tell her daughter wasn't there anymore. The hate in her eyes. She knew what it was like, how it could eat away at you. It was so hard not to give. If her pull to Jace wasn’t so strong she would have gone down the same path. She looked up at the sky night had fallen and the dark over casted predicted their pending doom. The moonlight shimmered down and Nora found herself begging for help. She prayed, pleaded, and begged for the moon goddess help. Mallory sat there watching the flames creep higher up the wood pile.

I noticed a small couch in a corner and took a seat on it. "Do you always watch me every night?" She suddenly asked me breaking the silence. "Since you got attacked," I confirmed and she nodded. "You're quite calm for someone who just learned that completely fictional characters actually exist," I pointed out. I've noticed ever since I told her that I was a vampire she kept a calm expression as if she's been told the exact same thing her whole life. "I really don't know either. I just feel this weird sense of belonging." That's probably the effect of the sacred book on her. She's the chosen one so she'd naturally feel attached to our species without even knowing.

As the room started to go black, she heard a strangely slurred voice growling, "SSShit, ssshez faintinggg." A few moments after the text announcing Nora's death, a follow up text sent a chill through every lycan in the manor. "Initial findings indicate she was attacked by a lycan." Cadifor checked the number that the text was coming from only to find that it was blocked.

“—Relax, Alexa. I'm just overwhelmed. I never saw the attack coming that's why I'm a bit shocked.” A bit offended, I turned away from her. “You really think I'm going to fall for that?” Nora sighed and tugged me slowly by the elbow. “I just feel so awful right now.” “That is why,” I turned to Nora and held her by the shoulders firmly. “Teach me.” I said. “I need to know the depths of the powers locked within me so I can protect myself and my baby! Do you know how vulnerable I felt when I was circled around by werewolves?”

She thought. Lorenzo noticed she’d been staring at his arm for a while now. “Is this the first time you’re seeing someone with a tattoo?” he asked, raising his eyebrows. Nora gulped hard. “S-Sorry,” she stammered. Lorenzo’s smile was dark and cold, it was more of a smirk. He slowly walked toward Nora, looking at her intently. All Nora could see was hatred, anger, and disgust. She immediately turned away from him, pretending to study the fireplace instead of letting him see her trembling hands.

She pouted then trudged out of the room. Nadia widened her eyes as the man came closer to her. He lifted his own wrist to his mouth and chomped down. The sound of breaking skin sent a cringing shiver down her spine. Blood pooled from the prick and Damon offered her his wrist. Nadia instantly shook her head. “You’re delusional.” She retorted. Damon furrowed his brows. “Vampire blood heals little wolf.” He urged his wrist forward for her to take. “I’m not drinking that.” She pursed her lips.
