The shadows pressed again, more aggressively, their whispers sharp and mocking, trying to erode her focus. But with Damon beside her, guiding, warning, and lending strength, she was unstoppable. Finally, the tendrils recoiled, shadows dissipating like smoke in sunlight, leaving the forest silent, mist curling lazily now, almost peaceful. The figure, however, remained, watching, waiting, its expression unreadable.

The air held its breath. The shadow collapsed back, pulling itself together in tatters. Thinner and weaker now, but not gone. It slithered toward the pool, melting into the black water. The surface swallowed it whole.
