Dark clouds had gathered over the Pacific. Lightning split the horizon. The calm sea had vanished. Towering waves slammed against the cliffs. Ross frowned. “How long?” “The weather service predicts at least twelve hours.” Lucien’s expression hardened. “We don’t have twelve hours.” “No.” Victor agreed. “We don’t.” Aurora stepped toward the window.

Not long after the boat vanished over the horizon, dark clouds rolled in, and massive waves surged like a raging beast, swallowing the shore. I was swept into the dark current, seawater flooding my lungs. As my consciousness faded, I felt a strange sense of relief. Meanwhile, at the grand cathedral in Laningarde, wedding bells rang out. Barrett, dressed in a white suit, was about to slip the diamond ring onto Astrid's finger when a disheveled guard burst in, his panicked scream cutting through the music. "Boss, bad news! A tsunami just hit the island. Miss Brooks didn't make it!"

"Very good." I staggered forward, gasping. "That was... incredible. I was almost swept away by the wind." "Magic isn’t safe, Storme," she said. "It’s alive. Always respect it." I nodded, heart elite with joy. "One more," she said, her eyes gleaming. "The tornado." My stomach dropped with fear. "You’re joking." "Not at all," she said. "It will be small. Focus your will into a point. Shape the air."

One possibility after another flashed through his mind, but there was no turning back. He wandered through the unfamiliar streets of a foreign city. Thunder split the sky, and heavy rain began to fall. People on the street ran for shelter and hurried home to escape the storm, but Marcus had nowhere to go. He walked in the rain and repeated Yara’s name under his breath. Before long, he was completely soaked. His phone suddenly rang. He picked it up with a flicker of hope. It was a message from Yelena. [Marcus, come back.]

Storm second away from breaking. Shit.

he grumbled, hauling himself to his feet. "If you reject me without preparations, heck, if any of us reject each other without proper preparations then we are both fucked. We'll lose our minds literally." I snapped immediately. Storm scoffed, brushing dirt off his shirt like I hadn't just warned him about losing his damn mind. "I am already losing my mind, maybe that's better than whatever this shit is," he muttered. I took a step closer. "We aren't full adults yet, you wouldn't last two hours, Storm. You’d claw your own throat out before you even made it back to town."
