She stood, walked over to the black coin sitting on the mantle—the one the Widowmaker returned after Viktor handed it to her. Valeria stared at it. The symbol of death. Bain Blackwood’s mark. She let out a shaky breath. “I’m not afraid of you.” But her pulse said otherwise.

The pressure on my throat vanished, and I dropped to the ground, coughing violently, air burning my lungs. Through my tears, I saw Iris. I was scared she wouldn't show up. I was scared it was my last moment. But there she was! She positioned herself between us now, eyes shimmering like dual moons, her aura enveloping me like a tide of tranquility. Her wings spread out behind her in brilliant defiance, and the earth shook under her bare feet “Ah… sister,” Valkyrie drawled, unfazed. “I always thought you were the wise one. But imagine… choosing a weakling to carry the pendant’s legacy.”

Zane’s head snapped toward the sound. “So you finally decided to show yourselves.” A soft laugh echoed through the trees. Then… She stepped out. Valkyra. She wore an entirely black cloak, her silver hair spilling over her shoulders as though the darkness itself had wrapped around her. A cruel smile spread across her lips. “I was beginning to think you’d disappoint me.” Zane’s grip tightened around his sword. “Where’s my son?” “No greeting?” She pouted dramatically. “That’s rather rude.” “I asked where my son is.”

The only daughter of Alpha Magnus, the leader of the Black Iron pack, and more importantly, she was rumored to be the Lycan King's betrothed. Arianna had met her once, a long time ago, when her father had Alpha Magnus as a visitor. She had caught a glimpse of Valkyrie, but they had never spoken. Now she understood where the hatred was coming from. As the only slave to survive the king's rut, Valkyrie was bound to resent her. Now, all the pieces fell into place. Valkyrie was trying to hide that Arianna survived the king's rut. "How has the life of a slave been so far?" Valkyrie dismissed the maids and turned fully to face Arianna.

Xander took a seat at the table, nodded to let Kord know he was listening. Taryk and I took our seats as well. "Recording," Atlas said. Lukas' eyes crinkled at the corners as he watched my brother. A goofy looking smile flirted with his mouth. "Valkyrie began as death maidens in service to an ancient Earth religion system's god. They were the ones to travel a battlefield and select which ones got to go to Valhalla. Essentially a party palace where they get to fight, drink, and gorge themselves until the god's doomsday appears. Then they're expected to help fight with the god to destroy the bad guys."

But before I could storm out, Zaqriel’s voice stopped me. “Valkyrie is not a man.” I turned. His eyes caught mine, blazing, stripping every shield I thought I had. “Valkyrie is a bloodline. MY bloodline.”

Then, in a moment she felt an excruciating pain in her flesh. I got badly wounded! Cybele whispered in her mind as she gaze blood on her hand. She heard him shouting her name, but her senses were slowly fading away. " Tyr..." she faintly whispered. " No...no...!" Tyr's voice was shaking as when hen he gazed at her beloved dying. Valkash's bone sword is a weapon that could kill a deity, and it was so tragic that Cybele got struck by it. A little...I can still hold on a little... I can do this! Tyr whispered to himself.

She laughed. Blackwater Val, Richard’s mind echoed. Once you’re from the Val, son, you’re always from the Val. Didn’t you know that? He blinked the thought away. “You can never return here,” she was saying, rising from the table, “or speak of this to anyone. Tell no one what we’ve done tonight, eh?” The witch led them toward the door. “Do not come back to this house for any reason, no matter the outcome. Not ever, do you understand?”

Sharp blue eyes and lips as red as a cherry. “You have great taste.” I shrugged. “So you are?” “Skye.” I stretched forth my arms in a handshake, “Val—” “Valkyrie Nightborn.” He finished. I stared at Azira who raised her hands innocently. “Everyone knows you. Alpha Ryker's slave and the white…witchy.” My lips flew open. Then my eyes. Azira nudged his arm. “So sorry, mi lady.” He bowed dramatically grinning from ear to ear like he'd just said a midnight joke.
