After he acknowledges, I hang up, take a deep breath, and slip my phone into my pocket before heading inside.
Once I’m in, it’s eerily quiet—Olivia’s nowhere to be found. Maybe she’s asleep? As I walk past her room, I suddenly hear a loud scream. I turn around and open the door, only to find her thrashing in her sleep, clearly having a nightmare. My heart sinks. I rush to her side and shake her gently, "Olivia, wake up!" But she just keeps screaming, "No... please... don’t... die..." My jaw tightens; that jerk is the reason for her distress.
