LOGINAlaine stared at Rhoda, her gaze unfocused, all that was ringing in her ears were Rhoda’s words: ‘This is the kind your precious daughter lived when she was in Eve’s place. ‘
Tracy frowned as she could tell that there was something wrong with the woman, but she didn’t want to speak, believing that it wasn’t life-threatening.
What Tracy could tell Rhoda could do. She looked at Alaine, displeased as she wondered when her friend had become this weak.
She sighed as she started shaking the woman so as to wake her up, causing Alaine to jump in fright.
Seeing that it was Rhoda’s, she calmed down a little bit, but she was displeased with the woman’s actions.
“Why did you do that?” Her eyes were full of anger, but a hint of confusion.
Rhoda rolled her eyes at her and said, “You need to leave so that we can start the treatment.”
Alaine stared at her for a while, something inside her telling her that the woman was lying, but since she wasn’t in a good mood, she nodded her head.
She turned around to leave but stopped, turned, and looked at her daughter for a while, guilt in her eyes. She thought that if she hadn’t been so weak while giving birth, maybe she would have made sure that the kids weren’t swapped.
“I will be waiting for you outside. Is there anything you want to eat? I can go buy so that when you come out, you can eat,” she said.
Tracy nodded, “Just some beef burgers, please, uhm, and a mixed fruit juice.”
Alaine’s lips curled up as she had been afraid that the girl wouldn’t speak to her after everything that happened. What she feared most was her daughter blaming her for the harsh life she had lived in.
Upon seeing her friend smiling foolishly, Rhoda just shook her head, but she was really happy for her.
“Bring me the usual,” she said suddenly, just when Alaine was about to walk out of the room.
Alaine stopped, looked at her with disdain, and said, “Send me the money.”
“You!! You can’t even buy me lunch?” she asked as she placed her hands on her heart, pretending to be hurt.
“Oh, please. You want to use my money, but you refuse to give me a free subscription?” Alaine said with a mocking tone, but anyone could see from her eyes that she was really happy.
“You…” Rhoda said, but just as she was about to complete her words, she heard Alaine saying.
“Let’s do this. I buy you lunch and you Tracy a free spa. What do you think?”
Rhoda stared at her friend for a while, then looked at Tracy, who was standing at the side watching them.
She had already taken the towel and covered her body.
“Who said that she was going to pay? She is my goddaughter, so how can I take her money?” Rhoda said, stunning the two women.
Tracy stared at the woman so intensely. She had seen the woman at the Grants’ mansion but they never spoke. To be precise, every time she would be coming, Eve would cry, saying that she was afraid that her aunt Rhoda would like Tracy more than she liked her, and she didn’t want that.
Cause of that, Tracy would always be told to hide in her room, to only come out when the guest was gone. But if the woman cared for her as she portrayed right now, why didn’t she try reaching out?
Or…? Thinking of how vicious Eve was, she believed that there was a chance that the woman spoke ill of her, causing Rhoda to have a bad impression of her. From what she had seen today, she was someone who cared so much about characters.
“What? Are you going to say that she isn’t? Don’t forget what we said in school, when you get kids, I will be their godmother, and if I did, you will be my kids' godmother,” Rhoda said, a frown on her face and a judging look in her eyes.
Alaine couldn’t understand what was happening. Though the latter was so picky even when it came to choosing friends, she was very easygoing, but she never liked Eve. Why is it that she had just met Tracy, and she already wanted to be her godmother?
She looked at her suspiciously, believing that she was scheming on something.
“Why didn’t you agree to be Eve’s godmother?” Alaine asked. “I had asked you several times, when you came to see her at the hospital after I gave birth, on her first birthday, even months ago, I had asked you the same question.”
“She was never pretty, even when she was a kid,” Rhoda said as she shrugged, making them speechless.
Seeing their look, Rhoda pursed her lips, a serious gaze appearing on her face.
“When you were giving birth, I was waiting outside, the baby who was carried out and the one whom you showed me were different,” Rhoda said, startling them.
“Why…”
“Why didn’t I say anything?” Rhoda asked, looked at Alaine, then scoffed. “Emotionally, you weren’t stable. If I told you my suspicions, wouldn’t you have gone crazy?”
Alaine lowered her head, biting her lips, as she recalled how miserable she was during that time. If it weren’t for her finding out that she was pregnant, she would have committed suicide a long time ago.
“After that, I got used to the baby’s face and eventually forgot. However, deep inside me, there was something that never agreed to. I accepted Eve as my goddaughter. As she grew up, she started disappointing me with her character, and I thought that it wasn’t worth it. If I didn’t see Tracy and heard about the swap today, I would have completely forgotten what I saw back then.”
Tracy looked at her, pursed her lips, but she didn’t interrupt them. Looking at the two women, they seemed to be best friends.
“Anyways, Tracy is your flesh and blood and truly worthy of being my goddaughter. You won’t refuse cause I refused Eve back then, right?” Rhoda asked as she eyed Alaine suspiciously.
She knew that it was hard for the woman to have no feelings left for a girl she had brought up and stayed at her side for more than eighteen years. However, she was really worried that that might make Alaine’s relationship with Tracy turn sour.
Just the thought of it, her face paled as she started regretting asking the woman that question in front of the kid. What if she really refused her for that reason?
Alaine stared at Rhoda, her gaze unfocused, all that was ringing in her ears were Rhoda’s words: ‘This is the kind your precious daughter lived when she was in Eve’s place. ‘Tracy frowned as she could tell that there was something wrong with the woman, but she didn’t want to speak, believing that it wasn’t life-threatening.What Tracy could tell Rhoda could do. “Y…you, what happened to you?” she asked as she stammered, her eyes still on the scars and wounds at the latter’s naked parts. However, just as she asked that question, she shook her head, thinking that she was foolish, how could she ask her that question when its quite evident what had happened.“Alaine, come in here,” she shouted, startling both Tracy and Alaine.Tracy stared at her, a frown on her face, not understanding what that woman was calling her mother for.She opened her mouth to say something but her mother had already opened the door.As soon as she walked in, she looked around panickingly, didn’t see anything wrong and sighed in relief. “Why are you screaming? Gosh, someone might think that something bad has happened,”Hearing her words, Rhoda turned to her, fury in her eyes and face. “Nothing bad? Are you blind?”Alaine frowned, not understanding why the latter was behaving like that. “Can you come down and explain what’s wrong?”Rhoda pointed at the woman, her chest ri
“Hae Rhoda,” Alaine greeted the lady behind the desk when they walked into the spa.The woman who was busy typing on the keyboard lifted her head. When she saw Alaine, a smile appeared on her face. “Hae Alaine. Weren’t you here a few days ago?”“I brought my daughter today,” Alaine said.Rhoda nodded as they were used to seeing Eve every week. She looked around and couldn’t see Eve. She turned to Alaine with a confused gaze. “Where is she?”“Here she is,” Alaine said as she pulled Tracy closer to her. “I bet you haven’t seen the company’s news.”Rhoda shook her head, then stared at the woman waiting for her to tell her what was going on.“The kids were swapped at birth. She is my biological daughter, Tracy. Can you please be the one serving her?”Rhoda stared at the girl whom her friend had introduced. Hearing her last sentence, she frowned, not understanding why the latter would request such a thing, but she still nodded as the woman really requested anything.“I am your mom’s friend
“Of course not, dear. Since that’s what you want, then we can go with that,” Alaine said.“You heard what my daughter said, the banquet should be one of a kind. You have a week,” she said.“Okay, madam,” the secretary replied, and the call was disconnected.“Wow, with that kind of heiress, I wouldn’t mind working overtime to make this banquet the prettiest,” one of the secretaries said, and the others nodded their heads.“Why don’t we divide the work? That way, we can do a great job. I also have a feeling that we won’t be given other tasks apart from that.” The others nodded as they all wanted to contribute as a way to thank Tracy for speaking for them.“The boss might not, but you know her husband.” Upon hearing those words, everyone stopped talking as they knew how Mr Grant was; he always allocated tasks to them so that everyone could see that he had a say. Still, he didn’t have a lot of the company’s shares. After hanging up the call, Alaine opened Weibo, looked at the company’s mai
Alaine stared at Tracy, thinking her daughter’s laugh was so pleasing to the ears, but something felt uneasy.“What? The Grants heiress needs to ask her husband for permission? Are you the company’s CEO or is he? No, sorry, aren’t you the Grant’s daughter? So your words carry more weight than his, right?” Tracy asked, causing Alaine to panic.“You just claim that you need to ask your husband for his decision; if he refuses, you will claim that it wasn’t that you didn’t do it, but he did? I am so sure that you sure how he favors Eve more than he favors me, right?”Tracy looked at her mother with indifference, her heart already gone cold with everything that happened. Well, she went back to being the indifferent Tracy who had just walked into the Grants' mansion after being reborn.“Anyways, Miss Grant, if you don’t want to acknowledge me, just say so; please stop wasting my time. I need to go look for a cheap house to live in,” Tracy added, but Alaine understood those unsaid words. She,
Despite walking hurriedly, the distance between the two continued widening, causing Alaine to panic. Her face was full of tears, making everyone who passed her look at her twice as they found her too pretty and rich. With no option, she stopped a motorbike that passed her.“Can you please reach that lady?” she asked as she climbed up.The man was stunned but still did as told.Tracy heard a motorbike behind her, causing her to step aside, but when it stopped in front of her and she recognized her mother, she snorted and continued walking.“Baby, I am sorry, okay?” Alaine said as she hurriedly ran to her and hugged her, stunning everyone.“I am sorry, but I am not your daughter. Your daughter is at home,” Tracy said coldly, making more tears roll down her mother’s cheeks.“I am sorry. You are the daughter I carried for nine months; my blood runs in your veins; how can you not be my daughter?” Alaine asked stubbornly and didn’t let go of Tracy’s arm no matter how much Tracy tried to get
“Dad, how can Mom do that to me? Just because I am not her biological daughter? I thought that having brought me up, she has affection for me and loves me,” Eve said as she cried in her father’s arms.Mr Grant sighed helplessly. “You know that I can’t contradict her. Just bear with it at the moment
Everyone was startled and turned to her.“Wife, what’s wrong?” Mr Grant asked with a frown.Alaine didn’t glance at him. Her attention was on Tracy’s hand. Ignoring the stares, she walked towards her daughter. The room was filled with silence; only her soft steps could be heard.Eve looked at her m
“Miss, we have arrived.”Tracy heard someone saying, and she opened her eyes slowly. When she saw that she was in a car, she was stunned.‘What is happening?’ Tracy wondered as her eyes started roaming around. She met the driver’s gaze through the rear-view mirror, stunning her.“Uncle Stephen?” sh
“Tracy, you are going to be released today. Are you excited?” her roommate asked the woman who was seated on her bed, staring at the white wall blankly.Hearing her name being called out, Tracy broke out of her thoughts and looked at her roommate.‘Being released?’ she asked herself before getting
