“Sorry, this afternoon we sent a message to your secretary that today's meeting was canceled, Mr. Sean suddenly had to go abroad.” Mike and Renee both frowned. Sean went overseas? “I didn't receive the message,” Mike muttered sharply, causing the receptionist to lower her head so nervously that Renee felt sorry for her. But then Mike shrugged his shoulders. “All right, then, I'll go back to the office and make up for the time I wasted here.” Mike turned to Renee. “If my time is wasted I'll be late coming home.” Renee couldn't help but smile. Mike seemed more annoyed at having to be late home than he was that he didn't see Sean.

"By the way Sir, just at lunch, did I talk about my off day?” “No. What’s with that? Was it okay if you took off day every two weeks?” “It’s okay, of course. I wanted to tell you that earlier, but I guess I forgot. And it will take effect at the beginning of the month.” “The beginning of the month is a week away. So when do we meet?” “Well… about three more weeks. It's not even three weeks, because the count means I work ten days, then four days off.” “It's been a long time since we haven't seen each other. If you miss you, how do you do, Love?”

One afternoon, while I was fishing, watching small ripples spread across the water, my phone started buzzing at the worst possible moment. I glanced at it and saw it was a message from Christina, asking me to pick her up at the airport. "Landing in ten minutes. Hurry." I could practically hear her high-handed tone through the screen. Speechless, I rolled my eyes. Did she think she was the queen and that I was her most loyal servant? In one swift motion, I blocked and deleted her contact. Just when I thought no one would disturb my fishing anymore, I suddenly received a message from Adrian. A voice message, no less.

Just day before yesterday, I was in that very same car heading to dinner with him but I guess things change. I entered the building a frown creasing my brow as noticed Tessa's desk was empty. I made a note mentally to get her number and check up on her. I really hoped she's fine. My phone beeped a notification and I took it out of my purse,it was from Mr Brown and it read; ‘hi, I won't be able to make it to work today, hope you've read the case. Could you go to court and appear on my behalf? I'm sorry for the inconvenience but I can't make it today. I'm quite under the weather.’

It’s mid-afternoon, yet she’s still in her pajamas. Her hair’s tied into something that resembles a bun, and she’s glaring daggers at the television. She glances at her phone again. “It’s been almost a month and she hasn’t even texted me once”. She huffs. “Is this what it’s like to be ghosted?”. She snorts in amusement. “Or maybe I’ve just been sidelined, because she definitely has more important things to do than talk to me”. She adds sarcastically.

The first real crack appeared six weeks into our long-distance arrangement. I'd been working late—a major presentation to the board was scheduled for the next morning, and my team had discovered a significant error in our projections that needed immediate correction. By the time I finished, it was past midnight, and I'd missed our scheduled video call. Three missed calls from Damien. Four texts. Hey, still at work? Getting worried. Everything okay? Elena, can you just let me know you're alright?

I walked over to the sofa, and I unbuttoned my denim jacket because the fabric felt too warm inside the heated room. I pulled my phone out of my right pocket, and I pressed the side button to check the current time. The lock screen illuminated the dark room, and my breath caught in my throat. The screen was not blank. Three bright notifications stacked on top of each other, and they demanded my attention. Missed FaceTime Call: Unknown Number. Missed FaceTime Call: Unknown Number. Missed FaceTime Call: Unknown Number. My heart slammed against my ribs, and the residual happiness from the festival vanished fast. I stared at the timestamps listed next to the missed calls. The first call arrived

It was barely past eight when I was standing in line… I lost a few minutes blacked out in the office… maybe an hour dancing at most… Wasn’t it? I stare at the screen again, and ice floods my veins. Fifteen missed calls. Brinna. I forgot my best friend’s birthday.

" She asked calmly. " Yeah, I am of course. But I'm just waking up and the game won't start until 3 pm, so can you just chill please?" " Oh! Sorry, Missy. What says your time?" She asked. I checked my phone and it says 12:15 pm noon. " Oh my God! Did I sleep that long?" " Yup, so you better go get ready before you miss the game and your chance with Cole. I also hope his team wins the super bowl." She said.
